Alex Rae has suggested on BT Sport that James Forrest could leave Celtic if a big offer comes in between now and the end of the summer transfer window.

The former Rangers midfielder, who played for the Gers from 2004 until 2006, has suggested that a major offer could see Celtic cash in on 28-year-old winger Forrest.

Rae made the comments while discussing Rangers manager Steven Gerrard’s recent remarks about potentially losing star striker Alfredo Morelos and right-back James Tavernier in the final days of the summer transfer window, as quoted in The Daily Record.

Rae said about Forrest on BT Sport: “That can happen for any club, if a big offer came in for a Celtic player as well.

“You look at James Forrest, who has been a standout in the last five or six games.

“There have been rumours about Saint Petersburg in Russia, if they came in with a silly bid, then there may well be something.”

Interest in James Forrest

According to The Scottish Sun, Zenit Saint Petersburg are interested in signing Forrest from Celtic in the summer transfer window.

It has been reported that the Russian Premier League club are willing to pay £12 million as transfer fee for the Scotland international and are prepared to pay the winger £70,000 per week as salary.

Celtic stay

Forrest is one of the best wingers in the Scottish Premiership and is a key figure in the Celtic team.

While it could be tempting for the Hoops to sell the winger at a high price, the problem that they would face is that they would not have any time to sign a suitable replacement.
