Alex Rae has admitted that it’s a ‘shame’ Celtic winger Scott Sinclair has fallen down the pecking order at Parkhead this season.

The 30-year-old has only played 56 minutes of football under Neil Lennon [transfermarkt] – three Champions League qualifier appearances and one Premiership game.

In 2016, Sinclair moved to Parkhead from then-Championship bound Aston Villa, with the Scottish club paying the Midlands outfit £3 million for his services [Guardian].

Speaking to Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, former Scottish midfielder Rae shared his thoughts on Sinclair’s continued absence from Lennon’s matchday squad.

“Unfortunately for him, he seems to have gone down the pecking order,” Rae told Clyde 1.

“Elyounoussi’s come in, Jonny Hayes seems to be ahead of him, I think when Mikey Johnston is fit, he will more than certainly be ahead of him as well.

“I think what they did is that they took the one-year option to extend in the summer with the pretence that he would go to England and re-coup some money. It hasn’t materialised and he has just fallen down the pecking order.

“It’s a shame because if you look at the contribution over the previous three years, he has really pitched in with some important goals.”

When Sinclair initially joined Celtic, it was the first time that he was going to ply his trade in Scotland, but it wasn’t the first time he was working under then-manager Brendan Rodgers.

Therefore, it wouldn’t have surprised many that he did hit it off from the get-go and ended playing a key part in Rodgers being so utterly dominant in Glasgow.

During his time with Celtic, Sinclair has played 164 games, scoring 61 goals and supplying his teammates with 36 assists [transfermarkt] – it remains to be seen whether he can add to those numbers in these coming weeks and months.
