Alex Rae has claimed that Ryan Jack has taken his game to ‘another level’ because of his more senior Rangers teammate Steven Davis.

The former Gers man also stated that he was ‘frustrated’ with Rangers’ midfield last season, but Jack’s form and Davis’ presence alongside him has now added more bite to that area of Steven Gerrard’s team.

Aside from injury, Jack has played every game for Gerrard in the Scottish Premiership this season, supplying two assists to his teammates along the way [transfermarkt].

Speaking to Clyde 1 Superscorecard, Rae was full of praise for the improvement Jack has made to his game this season, as he explained what he is doing right.

“I was watching Rangers last year and I was getting frustrated at the lack of penetration in terms of a killer pass,” Rae told Clyde Superscoreboard. “I think by playing with Steven Davis, Ryan Jack has taken his game to another level.

“He’s driving forward, he’s looking to probe and he’s looking to play diagonals. I think when you are a midfielder you have got to have a lot of that and Steve Davis has had that throughout his whole career and I think it’s rubbing off on everyone else because you are starting to see a lot more creativity coming from the park.

“I think that’s the reason why you are seeing the 5’s and so forth because last year there was games where they were huffing and puffing to try and break defences down.”

The midfield is a key area for Rangers and Gerrard this season as the Englishman has without a doubt bulked up in that area this summer.

It could even be argued that the midfield area is key in who will win the Scottish Premiership title because whoever dominates, especially during the Old Firm games, will more than likely walk away with the points.

Nonetheless, over the weekend, Rangers closed the gap on Celtic to one-point as they will be hoping to potentially leapfrog them before the international break hits again.
