Former Rangers midfielder Alex Rae has told the Daily Mail that he thinks Josh Windass’ celebration against Partick Thistle was ‘ill-advised’.
Rangers travelled to Firhill on Tuesday night to take on local rivals Partick, and were hoping to get back to winning ways after losing 2-1 at home to Hibernian.
Graeme Murty’s men produced another fine away performance, as Josh Windass struck the opener before James Tavernier hit a fine goal in the second half.

Whilst the victory should have been the focus, much of the post-match discussion has surrounded Windass and his somewhat controversial celebration after finding the net.
After Windass scored, he turned away to shush his own fans, seemingly responded to some strong recent criticism aimed in his direction from Rangers supporters.
Despite the fact that Windass now has 10 goals in 29 games this season, the playmaker hasn’t quite won many Rangers fans over yet, as they remain unconvinced by his confidence and application at times.
Manager Murty suggested after the game that he would need to speak to Windass about his reaction, and now former Gers midfielder Alex Rae has had his say.

Rae has told the Daily Mail that he felt Windass’ celebration was ill-advised, and he is now piling pressure onto himself, suggesting that Rangers players needs to take Windass aside and have a word with him.
“For me, it’s ill-advised,” said Rae. “It means you have to be at the top of your game all the time otherwise your critics will continue to be on your back. You want to be showing them what you can do, but to tell people to shush isn’t the right way to go about it. The fact the manager is now having to go and speak with him says it all. It’s important that other senior players in the dressing room also pull him to one side and speak with him.”
“They should make him focus on his goals and the fact he is a threat. This only brings more pressure to his door. I know what it’s like to play at big clubs. The last thing you want to do is go looking for trouble as it finds you regardless. He just needs to do what he’s been doing. He’s scored a few goals of late so he’s on good form. Just win them over,” he added.
