Glasgow Rangers fans were not happy after a week in which Ibrox striker Jermain Defoe has been heavily criticised.

Alex Rae and a number of Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to comment on a video which appears to show Oli Burke going to ground incredibly easily during Celtic’s victory on Wednesday night.

Gers striker Jermain Defoe has received a lot of criticism in the last week after winning a penalty in Steven Gerrard’s side’s weekend win over St Mirren at Ibrox, despite there seemingly being little or no contact.

Kilmarnock boss Steve Clarke angered Gerrard by insisting that Defoe should have received a two-game suspension following the incident (via BBC Sport), and he has not been alone in criticising Rangers’ January signing.

And that is perhaps why plenty of Gers supporters were desperate to highlight a video from Wednesday’s clash between Celtic and Hibernian at Parkhead that seems to show Burke go down inside the box in incredibly dramatic fashion.

It appears that the Hoops forward is anticipating a challenge from the defender and throws himself to the ground as the ball runs beyond him. If there is any contact, it certainly does not appear to be what sends Burke to the floor.

And in response, plenty of Rangers fans have insisted that Burke needs to come under the same scrutiny that Defoe has faced in the last few days, while Rae also criticised the Celtic loanee for the apparent dive.
