Alex Pritchard of England during training
Tottenham Hotspur sold a talented young playmaker earlier this month, with Alex Pritchard joining Norwich City in a deal reported to be worth around £8 million – according to the Daily Mail.
It was a move that shocked many, given the promise of Pritchard.
But the England under-21 international only managed to play twice for Spurs before being sold.
Alex Pritchard of Brentford celebrates scoring his teams first goal
Speaking to the Eastern Daily Press Pritchard has discussed his exit from Spurs, insisting he understood why the club were happy to sell him – with Champions League football on their mind:
“It is disappointing to leave there not knowing I got a fair chance but I couldn’t wait to leave really, I know they’ve got bigger and better things, they’ve got Champions League on their mind.”
Pritchard will now be playing his football in the Championship and hoping to thrive at Carrow Road.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino
Tottenham had high hopes for Pritchard this time last year after a brilliant loan spell at Brentford in 2014-15. Unfortunately, the England youth international suffered an ankle injury last summer and then struggled on loan at West Brom in the second half of the season.
Spurs have given plenty of young players a chance under the tutelage of Mauricio Pochettino but it would seem the 23-year-old’s time at Spurs had simply passed him by.
