Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has revealed to Liverpool’s official Twitter account he knew that he had suffered a bad injury when he saw Dejan Lovren’s reaction to it.

The former Arsenal attacker suffered a knee injury inside 20 minutes of Liverpool’s victory over Roma in the first leg a Champions League semi-final last season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was subsequently ruled out until May 2019, after also missing the final in Ukraine as well as England’s World Cup campaign in Russia.

And the 25-year-old told the Reds’ Twitter account that Lovren’s reaction to the injury told him all he needed to know.

He said: “Straightaway I thought, ‘I’m in a bit of trouble here’.

“Probably Dejan’s reaction. He was just stood over me, looking down and doing this [hands over his face] and I was like, ‘You’re not helping me mate’.”

The Liverpool ace, who was coming into a bit of form at the time of his injury and played a huge role in helping Jurgen Klopp’s side beat Manchester City in the previous round, also revealed that he hopes to be back playing again before the season is out.

But winning his place back could be difficult.

Klopp played him central midfield for most of the 2017-18 campaign, but the German manager now has the likes of Naby Keita on Merseyside.

Still, Oxlade-Chamberlain offers something that many Liverpool midfielders don’t and it’ll be interesting to see if he can get back to his best upon his return.
