Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers reportedly want Norwich City’s Alex Neil to replace Mark Warburton.

Reported Glasgow Rangers managerial target Alex Neil (Sky Sports) once criticised the Ibrox side for stockpiling young talent but never playing them in their first-team.

When Neil was in charge of Hamilton back in 2015, he was frustrated with Rangers and Celtic’s conduct in the transfer window.

He felt that the Glasgow rivals would search out Scotland’s top talent, and then halt their developments by not handing them chances.

“Celtic and Rangers suck up all the young talent in Scotland then suppress it by not playing them,” he moaned to the Daily Record. “They’re lucky to get a game for their Under-18 sides.

“We usually get them back at 21 or 22 but they’ve lost four years of their development when they could have been in our first team.”

It hints that Neil may, therefore, change Rangers’ transfer and selection policy if he was to take charge.

Neil is said to be on Rangers’ wishlist to replace Mark Warburton, with his Norwich City future not entirely secure.

Norwich have disappointed in the Championship this season, and although the Canaries have improved in recent weeks, the pressure is still on Neil at Carrow Road.

Rangers believe that they may be able to persuade Neil to move back to Ibrox, and it would be interesting to see whether he would put more youngsters into the Glasgow side’s first-team, if he was to take charge.

There is a huge amount of pressure on Rangers in every domestic match they play, and it can be a test for players to develop in such an environment.

However, Barrie McKay has proven that with talent and dedication it is possible to break through at Rangers, and Neil may look to help more youngsters make the grade at Ibrox, if he does take the reins.
