Rangers may not be seeking a new boss for a while, but Celtic remain in the hunt for their next boss.

Steven Gerrard has brought the title back to Ibrox, and unless a top Premier League becomes available, you have to imagine that there is no chance he’s leaving Rangers any time soon.

As for Celtic though, they have yet to find their new manager having seen Neil Lennon leave the club back in February.

It may well be Eddie Howe, but Alex Neil could yet be one name in the mix – especially after Celtic considered him in 2019 according to the Daily Mail.

Neil lost his job as Preston manager in March, and has yet to find a new job. His time at Preston became a little stale by the end, but he largely did a great job with the Lilywhites on a tight budget.

Neil has history in Scotland with Hamilton Academical, and he has now suggested that he would be open to managing Celtic or Rangers.

Speaking to the Hodge on Nodge podcast, Neil has suggested that he would ‘certainly’ think about managing either of the Old Firm sides if such an opportunity came up.

Neil admitted that he can see himself managing in Scotland again one day, and whilst it wasn’t an outright plea for the Celtic job, he may be one name to keep an eye on in case Eddie Howe doesn’t end up at Parkhead.

“I don’t know, I think if Rangers or Celtic come knocking it’s something you would certainly have to sit, talk about and consider,” said Neil. “There’s no doubts about that, with the magnitude of the clubs. Would it be a possibility? I’m probably the wrong person to ask that question, you’d have to ask them that.”

“I don’t know, I could see myself managing again in Scotland again at some point; when that will be I’m not quite sure. The difficulty you’ve got when you’re not working is that you don’t know what your next step is going to be, what’s going to come my way or if there is going to be jobs available in the summer. At this point, I think I just need to bide my time and see what comes up,” he added.
