Certain managers have different ways of handling expectations. Some will play it down in the media throughout the season, meanwhile others will use it as a source of motivation in order to inspire their players on to fulfilling their potential. Whilst Norwich City manager Alex Neil does not really seem to be in either camp one way or another, what he does do is look at things from a numerical perspective. As reported by Eastern Daily Press, the Scotsman has been crunching the numbers and looking at statistics to determine what his side need to do in order to be promoted.
The Canaries currently lie in the automatic promotion places as we approach this weekend’s round of fixtures, and with such a brilliant start to the season under their belts you could forgive some Norwich fans for getting excited.
“Over the years if you look at it, historically, then teams who go up average two points per game. If you do that then 95pc of the teams get promoted,” he said.

“If you look at that then we are well on track, or even just ahead of track. You set yourself targets throughout the season and that is one of them. We had an opportunity to put ourselves ahead of that at Wolves and we managed to do that.
“The Championship never surprises you. There are always teams who start well and fade, or finish strongly or have a season you wouldn’t expect. We have to maintain our form and keep picking up the points.

“We are six wins from seven and we were 90 seconds from seven out of seven, if you look at what happened at Newcastle,” said Neil. “I think it was important we won (at Wolves). When you lose and particularly in the manner we did there is always going to be an over-reaction.”
It seems as if the 35-year-old is leaving no stone un-turned when it comes to Norwich’s chances this season, and that makes sense given the unpredictability of this league. They take on struggling Rotherham United this weekend and whilst everything would suggest the Canaries will come out on top, the Millers’ desperate need for points could make things interesting.
