The Aston Villa boss was linked with the Leeds star when manager at Premier League Hull City.
Leeds United take on Aston Villa in the Championship later today and both teams will be hoping to keep up their impressive recent form.
Leeds have been on a good run under the management of Garry Monk and are currently in the play-off mix despite a shaky start.
Leeds Utd’s Alex Mowatt looks dejected after missing a chance to score
Aston Villa are also closing in on the top six. After a dreadful start to the season they have turned things around with the appointment of Steve Bruce. His appointment has been a catalyst for change at Villa Park and he will be hopeful of getting one over on Leeds.
There is one Leeds player that Bruce might have ended up working with himself.
Aston Villa Manager Steve Bruce
In April 2015 Alex Mowatt was proving himself as a breakthrough star at Elland Road. That saw him linked with a move to Steve Bruce’s Premier League Hull City by the Daily Mail.
He eventually distanced himself from the rumours, stating, in quotes from the Hull Daily Mail:
“John (Rudge, City scout) was watching Wolves versus Leeds. Looking at the articles, it was probably the agents. Look, it is our job to track all good, young players.
“There is no doubt he is a good player. It is a bit premature to say Alex Mowatt is on the radar.
“He is a good young player but that is as far as it has gone…”
Leeds’ Alex Mowatt on the bench
In the time since Mowatt was attracting apparent £7 million interest from the top-flight his stock has falling dramatically.
He had an indifferent 2015-16 campaign and is now struggling for any sort of game time under Monk after failing to impress his new manager.
He will no doubt hope to get a chance to shine for Bruce and Leeds this evening.
