Wolves’ Ruben Neves came close but Mowatt still holds a kit auction record from a time his stock was high.
At one point in time it looked as though Alex Mowatt was the next big thing to come out of Leeds United’s famed academy.
The midfield maestro was being linked with Premier League moves after a breakthrough season in 2014-15. He was named the Fan’s and Players’ Player of the Year that season and was looking like a future star.
However, his form dipped and his development plateaued. In January last year he was sold to Barnsley at a cut-price fee and in the summer he headed to League One side Oxford United on loan.

The Express and Star are reporting that their star midfielder Ruben Neves had one of his shirts sold off at auction for £1,350 recently for charity. That is a lot of money for a second-tier player, but Neves is also a Portuguese international .
That is not the record for a Championship shirt sale though. That record belongs to the former Leeds star Mowatt. He had a shirt sold at auction, fetching £2,000, after a win v Huddersfield Town in 2015.
It is a huge sign of how quickly his stock has fallen since being Leeds best player nearly three years ago. Hopefully he can find his way back to his best soon and finally fulfill his wasted potential.
