Alex Mowatt has joined Barnsley from Championship rivals Leeds United.

Alex Mowatt has taken to social networking site Twitter to send a message to Leeds United.

Mowatt has left Leeds for Championship rivals Barnsley on an initial two-and-a-half-year contract.

The 21-year-old midfielder came through the Whites’ youth academy and made over 100 appearances in the league for the first team.

The former England Under-20 international has taken to Twitter and Instagram to send an emotional message to the club.

Leeds assistant head coach Pep Clotet has wished Mowatt the best of luck in his career on Twitter.

Mowatt is a talented and promising footballer who has a bright future ahead of him. It is true that under head coach Garry Monk, the youngster could not get into the first team on a regular basis this season, but there can be no denial that he has a lot of potential.

The 21-year-old midfielder has made a good decision in joining Barnsley, who are doing well in the Championship at the moment and are in the running for the playoffs.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side are eighth in the league table with 41 points from 27 matches, just four points behind Sheffield Wednesday, who are currently sixth in the standings and occupy the final playoff spot.
