Harry Kane scored 29 Premier League goals for Tottenham Hotspur last term.
Speaking to The Daily Record, former Scotland boss Alex McLeish has described Tottenham Hotspur hitman Harry Kane as an “absolute monster of a player”.
The England striker will come up against Scotland in a World Cup qualifier at Hampden Park next weekend, fresh from another phenomenal season at Spurs.
The 23-year-old marksman picked up the Premier League’s Golden Boot after netting 29 times last term, scoring eight goals in his last three games to pip Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez to the award.
In this form, Kane is capable of terrorising Scotland’s back four at Hampden, and McLeish warns his compatriots that they will need to be on their game to combat not only him, but Tottenham team-mate Dele Alli, too.
“They’re playing at good levels and mentality shouldn’t be a problem. The occasion and because it’s England, they’ll roll the sleeves up that wee bit further,” he told The Daily Record.
“They’ll need to with Tottenham hitman Kane on top form. McLeish said: “Kane is an absolute monster of a player. Fantastic.
“He reminds me of Martin Chivers, from the old black-and-white telly days. A big strong English centre-forward. He fits that kind of bill –skilful, powerful runner, he’s just about got the lot.
“We’ve got to stop him but there are others too. I’ve seen a lot of the teams in London this season and Dele Alli’s been the most creative player in the league so there’s a huge attacking threat that Scotland will need to stop.”
One saving grace from a Scotland perspective is that Kane has often struggled to scale the same talismanic heights for his country as he does for Spurs.
