Birmingham City’s Che Adams could be switching to play for Scotland.
Alex McLeish has told The Sunday Post that he has held talks with Birmingham City striker Che Adams about playing for Scotland.
Adams, 22, has become one of the Football League’s most feared strikers in what has been a sensational season for the former non-league hitman.
Adams has hit eight goals in his last eight games, taking his tally for the season to 19 goals in 32 games, whilst he’s also grabbed three assists.
The Englishman is highly regarded, with The Times recently reporting that Birmingham want a huge £22million fee for the striker after Premier League interest.
In fact, The Mirror even claimed just days ago that Celtic have joined the race for Adams by scouting him, even though that fee is surely beyond the Bhoys.
In a fascinating development, Adams may well be playing his football in Scotland soon – but not necessarily for Celtic.
Adams has a Scottish grandparent, meaning that he is actually eligible to switch his international allegiance and represent Scotland instead of England.
Scotland boss McLeish had admitted that discussions have been held with the forward’s representatives about Adams switching, but the decision has been left up to him in what would be a major coup for Scotland.
“At the moment he wants to keep himself playing at club level, he’s had a good season, we have charted his progress, so we will keep that one open,” said McLeish. “We will leave it up to him just now and we will keep monitoring the situation. It was amicable discussions with him and his representative. I never spoke to Che personally but we have noticed his form and we think we can enhance his career and it would be up to him now,” he added.
