Alex McLeish urges Derek McInnes to take the Sunderland job

Sunderland are currently looking to to find a replacement for David Moyes.

Alex McLeish has confirmed to the Evening Express that he would take the Sunderland job, if it was offered to him.

The Black Cats are currently looking for a new manager, following David Moyes’ departure last month.

At the moment Derek McInnes is the favourite to take over at Sunderland, a manager who McLeish knows well.

And McLeish says that McInnes should take the role at the Stadium of Light, if it is offered to him.

“I would go to Sunderland in a shot if I was offered the job,” McLeish said. “Derek has done a great job at Aberdeen but the opportunity to take one of the big jobs in England doesn’t come along too often. And Sunderland is a big job.”

McInnes has done an impressive job at Aberdeen this season, guiding the Dons to second place in the Scottish Premiership table.

Aberdeen also made it to the Scottish Cup final, and were Celtic’s biggest rivals throughout the campaign.

McInnes previous experience of managing in England has come at Bristol City, where he spent two years at between 2011 and 2013.
