Aston Villa are currently in 19th place in the Championship table.

Former Rangers boss Alex McLeish

Alex McLeish has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 5th October, that Aston Villa can still finish in the play off spots this season.

McLeish feels that Villa should appoint Steve Bruce to get their season back on track, after a disappointing start.

Hull manager Steve Bruce

The Claret and Blues have won just once in their first 11 Championship matches, leaving them down in 19th place.

Villa have recently parted ways with Roberto Di Matteo due to their poor opening to the campaign, and McLeish feels that they should turn to Bruce in their hour of need – as he could guide them right back into the promotion battle.

“They’ll certainly be up there and fighting for the top six,” McLeish said, when asked to predict where Villa will finish if they appoint Bruce. “And, even where they are at the moment, it’s very possible. If you go on a winning streak in the Championship you go right up the table.”

Bruce is currently the odds-on favourite to land the Villa job with the bookies, with David Wagner his main rival.

Bruce has been out of work since departing Hull City last summer, and is now looking for a new job.

Villa are currently 10 points away from the top six, with their next fixture coming against Wolverhampton Wanderers after the international break.
