Steven Gerrard’s first season as Rangers manager will finish without a trophy.
Alex McLeish has praised Steven Gerrard for not going up to Rangers and being arrogant by making reference to his time at Liverpool or with England.
Despite having zero managerial experience, Gerrard decided to make the big leap and dive straight into the deep end by taking the vacant job at Ibrox last summer.
Considering it is his first season, Gerrard has done a very respectable job under big expectations and pressures, but he will be disappointed that he didn’t lift any silverware in his debut campaign.
Former Scotland coach McLeish offered his thoughts on the job Gerrard has done in Glasgow and applauded him for being honest about the club not winning any trophies.
“I’m very impressed,” McLeish told Love Sport Radio. “I know Stevie has been very humble and actually said ‘it’s not good enough [this season] and I’ve got to win things at this club
“He has certainly brought a lot of gravitas to that club. He’s not come up and said ‘I’m Stevie Gerrard, Liverpool and England’.”
The Gers will be on a little high because they beat their Old Firm rivals on home soil last Sunday to extend their recent run of form to six wins on the bounce.
Added with that, they have now beaten Celtic in back-to-back home games and they will be hoping to take this form into next season.
One more game of the regular season remains in Scotland and Gerrard’s side will take on Steve Clarke’s Kilmarnock, who are currently sitting in third place.
