The ban handed to Glasgow Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor angered a number of people at Ibrox.

Alex McLeish has insisted that he is not expecting to have any problems with Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor despite the anger felt by the Gers over the two-match suspension he was recently handed, in comments reported by the Evening Times.

The Ibrox faithful were left infuriated by the decision to ban the 37-year-old for two games following a challenge he made on Lewis Ferguson during Rangers’ win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

McGregor came flying off his line to collect a ball running into his box. And as he grabbed the ball, he caught Ferguson on the shin. The incident divided opinion with some believing that the Gers stopper knew exactly what he was doing, while others were adamant that his focus was on collecting the ball and not on the Dons ace.

The SFA took the controversial decision to suspend McGregor for two games, much to the bemusement of Rangers. But ahead of the upcoming international break, McLeish suggested that he is not expecting McGregor to have any problem with being called into the Scotland squad.

“Are there any concerns about Allan?” he said, as reported by the Evening Times. “No, I don’t think so. The SFA are the governing body and we are all part of it but no, I don’t think so.

“That would be like me back in the day going up for one of my disciplinary hearings and shouting ‘Jock, Mr Stein – that’s it, I’m not playing for Scotland any more’. That won’t be an issue with Allan, he is bigger than that.”

McGregor had established himself as his country’s first choice stopper in recent times, so this upcoming break is a chance for the Gers summer signing to strengthen his position – especially with former rival Craig Gordon not playing for Celtic in recent times.
