Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers exited the Europa League this week.
Alex McLeish has told Sky Sports that Rangers fans simply must support manager Pedro Caixinha – despite what he claims was an “awful, awful result” this week.
Rangers exited the Europa League in the first qualifying round after losing 2-0 away to Luxembourg side Progres Niederkorn on Tuesday night.

McLeish, who seven trophies during his six-year stint at Ibrox, claims it was the worst result in the history of the club.
Angry Gers supporters subjected those on the team bus to a torrent of abuse from close range after the defeat, but the Scottish manager tells Sky Sports that fans must continue to support the 46-year-old coach, who signed a three-year deal at Ibrox only in March.
“Let’s not get away from it – it is an awful, awful result and probably the worst in Rangers’ history. They used to go on about a Berwick Rangers result in 1967 but this is a shocker.
“It is a shocking result to lose to Luxembourg minnows but the fans still have to get behind Pedro Caixinha because he is there for the considerable future and you have to give him the support that Rangers fans have always afforded their managers in the beginning, including myself.”
Does Caixinha deserve more time? Of course. He is nowhere to near to being sacked but this is certainly a horrendous way to start your first full season.
Rangers fans won’t have been optimistic about reaching the group stages of the competition, but they will have expected to progress much further in the preliminary stages before being knocked out.
