Former Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish has been speaking about the potential for Steve Clarke to take over as Villa boss permanently from Roberto Di Matteo.
Aston Villa sacked the Italian boss earlier in the week after a string of poor results and an inability to close games out from winning positions led to the club edging closer and closer to another relegation fight.

His assistant Clarke has taken over in his place and McLeish, a somewhat unpopular boss during his time at Villa Park, told talkSPORT this morning (05/10/16) that Clarke must be considered for the permanent role:
“Why not?
“He’s got good experience. I think the guys with experience, notwithstanding me sitting here, experience is forever.
“You have to consider guys like Steve Clarke, but there are some big names in there beside him.”
Clarke experienced success at former club West Brom as head coach but had a mixed time at Reading, which ended when he decided to talk to Fulham about their managerial vacancy.

His experience in the game is vast and he has also been assistant manager at teams such as Chelsea, Liverpool and West Ham United.
The 53-year-old may not be a glamour appointment, but he might just get the job done at Villa Park.
