Tottenham Hotspur are targeting Southampton goalkeeper.

McCarthy won the starting spot from Fraser Forster this past season, and earned the trust of new boss Mark Hughes.
So much so, that Hughes has already given him the perfect incentive to snub Tottenham’s interest.

Hughes spoke earlier this month of his admiration for McCarthy, and said that he believes he has international potential.
The manager said he would ‘advocate’ a potential World Cup call, the Daily Echo reported, although was realistic enough to suggest.
McCarthy earned an England call in 2013 when he was playing for Reading, but did not make it onto the pitch.

Now he is finally re-establishing himself as a top flight goalkeeper, talk of an England call should re-focus McCarthy to stay.
Joining Tottenham would see McCarthy only be a back-up, behind top earner Hugo Lloris.
His manager discussing his international ambitions is a reminder to McCarthy that by being a regular for the Saints, he can get back into the Three Lions mix, with Nick Pope at Burnley demonstrating that spots are there for the taking.
Tottenham can offer him more money, a chance to be involved in Champions League games, and a shot at a team higher up the table, but for the most part McCarthy will be a spectator, and his England hopes will end the moment he goes back to being a number two.
