Marc Marquez’s race craft is unlike anyone else who is currently on the MotoGP grid, and his brother may be the only rider who knows what his weaknesses are in two-wheeled combat.

The factory Ducati man had showcased how complete a rider he is during his 2025 title-winning campaign, where the only man who came close to him was his younger brother, Alex Marquez.

After years of injury struggles, Marc Marquez returned to his finest form as he took 25 wins out of the 36 races that he competed in.

A broken collarbone with four rounds to go seemed like the only thing that could have stopped him from besting his previous MotoGP records.

As the Grand Prix motorcycle racing world now looks ahead to the 2026 term, it remains to be seen whether Alex can put up a genuine title fight against the elder Marc.

Alex Barros believes he already knows how to do it.

In an interview with Motosan, Alex Barros was asked about the talents of the current generation of Grand Prix motorcycle racing and, more specifically, that of Marc Marquez.

The former MotoGP rider fielded a question regarding the factory Ducati man’s current period of dominance, and what he would do to beat him if he was still on the grid, to which he answered, “Look, I didn’t have the chance to ride with Marc back in my day.

“Marc was from a different generation. But I see it as very difficult. Alex Marquez knows all his brother’s secrets. If there’s a weakness, Alex knows what it is, but he’ll never reveal it until his brother retires.

“He’s doing very well, and he has to keep it to himself, too. It’s a matter of ethics between them; he’s doing very well, but it’s very difficult.

Alex Marquez’s breakout season with Gresini will see him rewarded with a factory-spec Ducati in 2026, meaning he will finally be equipped with a bike that has the potential of winning a world championship.

If Barros’ theory is correct, we could very well see Marquez etched onto the riders’ trophy again next year, this time in favour of the 29-year-old.

Alex Barros likens Marc Marquez to Pele and Lionel Messi in ‘complete rider’ admission

Continuing in his assessment of Marc’s sheer dominance over the premier class, Barros likened the factory Ducati rider to two of the greatest football players in the history of the game.

He added, “Marc is a complete rider. The hardest thing you find in a human being is that they have all the qualities of a rider and the will to do it. Sometimes you see a very talented rider, but they lack dedication.

“Or the opposite, they’re very dedicated, but they lack talent. And Marc has everything. He’s one of those rare talents in history, like Pele or Messi, who only come along once every ten years. Marc is one of them.”

Marquez has kept quiet about a potential date he’ll call it quits on his two-wheeled career.

With him now back in the best form since his days with Honda, there’s no doubt he’ll continue until the prospect of any more world championships fades away.
