As the 2027 MotoGP season approaches, several riders are weighing up their next moves. Among them is Alex Marquez, who is once again attracting plenty of interest.

The 29-year-old has become a hot commodity in the 2026 rider market after an impressive 2025 campaign. He finished second overall with three wins and twelve podiums, raising his profile across the paddock.

Coming off his best season yet, Marquez carried that momentum into testing. He topped the race simulation times at Sepang, finishing ahead of factory Ducati riders Francesco Bagnaia and his brother Marc Marquez.

With his contract at Gresini set to expire at the end of this year, he faces a big decision about what comes next. Meanwhile, other top riders like Fabio Quartararo and Jorge Martin have already been linked with major moves for 2027.

With new 850cc bikes coming into play in 2027, the decision isn’t a straightforward one. The rule changes are expected to shake up the order, adding an extra layer of risk for anyone making a move.

That includes his brother, Marc Marquez, who remains one of the biggest names on the grid and a top target for several teams. Reports suggest Marc is in talks with Ducati about extending his stay with the factory team.

When asked about his own plans by MOW, Alex didn’t confirm whether he’d be staying or moving on from Gresini but did say that conversations with Marc had helped him make up his mind.

“I know I said in Thailand that I’ll say where I’ll go next year,” he said. “Yes, I know. Ultimately, this is my fourth year with Gresini, and that’s why I want to decide calmly when I get home when I have all the options on the table clear.

“The sentimental part is important: with Gresini we’ve created something very, very important. But I have to decide carefully: there’s a time to take a risk or make a change, and now there’s also the new regulation.

“We’ll see. In the end, I’ll choose the most solid proposal or the one where I feel best and most aggressive. I want to understand everything very well.”

Exploring Alex Marquez’s MotoGP options for 2027

Gresini are keen to keep hold of Marquez, and with his new factory bike, he should have everything he needs to fight at the front. Early signs point to him being a real title contender in 2026.

But whether that continues into 2027 is another matter, and his interest in joining a factory team might come into play, especially with several opportunities already open to him.

Aprilia had been mentioned as a possible destination, though they now appear more interested in signing Enea Bastianini. Yamaha is another option where Marquez and Bagnaia are both vying for the same seat, as Pedro Acosta looks set to replace Bagnaia at Ducati.

There are also reports suggesting that Marquez could sign a two-year deal with KTM. With Acosta leaving and Maverick Vinales moving up from Tech3, it would give KTM an entirely new Spanish lineup for the start of the new regulations.
