Hull City defender Alex Bruce has praised the amount of quality in the Newcastle United side and believes they have the players capable of returning them to the Premier League at the first attempt, according to his quotes on Sky Sports News.

After opening the season with back-to-back defeats, Newcastle have really started to kick on with five straight league victories, the latest of which was a 6-0 drubbing of QPR at Loftus Road.

And Bruce feels Newcastle’s squad is similar to the Hull squad he was part of that got promoted from the Championship last term.

“A lot was made of our squad last year and how strong it was and I think it’s very similar with Newcastle,” he told Sky Sports News.

“They’ve bought well. They were emphatic the other night, winning 6-0 at QPR is a real statement, they scored some great goals and they’ve got good players all over the pitch.”

Magpies manager Rafa Benitez brought in over £50m worth of new players over the summer and Bruce feels their whole squad is looking very strong.

“You see the quality of Shelvey, getting two goals the other night and even on the bench it was very strong,” continued the Tigers’ defender.

“They had Dwight Gayle and Mo Diame on the bench for them the other night so that just tells you what sort of strength and depth they’ve got.”

United’s 12 new recruits provides the team with an entirely new 11 should they need it as the squad looks well equipped for life in the Championship as the games come thick and fast.

And with five consecutive league victories, Newcastle currently sit second in the Championship table, one point behind leaders Huddersfield and they’ll be hoping to go top this Saturday with a victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at St. James’ Park (3pm kick-off).
