Alessandro Del Piero has congratulated Liverpool on their Champions League win and reminded Tottenham that they have been on a ‘great journey’.

The Reds beat their Premier League counterparts 2-0 in Madrid on Saturday evening, with Mo Salah and substitute Divock Origi scoring the only goals of the game.

In a game that lacked real quality, Liverpool were the more clinical team as Spurs were beaten in their first ever Champions League final.

After the match, Italy and Juventus legend, Del Piero sent this message to both Champions League finalists, as posted on his personal Twitter account.

This is the first trophy the Reds have won under the stewardship of Klopp, but Tottenham are searching for their first under Mauricio Pochettino.

But this summer, Pochettino will be hoping he can bulk up his squad and add more quality as he aims to take the club to the next level.

Despite losing on the night, Tottenham supporters will be pleased of their team’s effort and the manner in which they have reached the final.

Compared with their rivals, Spurs have not spent that much money and Pochettino has had to work with a limited budget, yet he has guided them to a top-four finish in the Premier League and a European Cup final.

As for Liverpool, after winning their sixth European crown, they will be turning their attention to the Premier League title and trying to dethrone Manchester City from the top of the table.
