Newcastle United striker Aleksander Mitrovic has told Get West London that he has not ruled out a return to St. James’ Park at the end of his loan spell with Championship side Fulham.

The 23-year-old joined Slavisa Jokanovic’s promotion-chasing side in the January transfer window on loan until the end of the season, after the Toon completed a loan move of their own in the form of Islam Slimani.

He has found his feet, scoring two goals in his last two games for the west Londoners in a 1-1 draw against Bristol City and an excellent 2-0 victory over Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Aleksandar Mitrovic arrives prior to the Premier League match between Newcastle United and AFC Bournemouth at St. James Park on November 4, 2017 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

Mitrovic was asked whether his long-term future remains at Newcastle after scoring his first goals for Fulham, but the former Anderlecht striker insisted his focus remains on gaining promotion with Fulham before stating “we will see”.

“Of course I wish Newcastle all the best, I hope they will stay in the league, they deserve it because they have a good team, good fans and a good manager,” Mitrovic said.

“I hope they will stay in the league and in the summer we will see what happens but I’m happy here, focused here and looking forward to playing every game. My only target is to help Fulham to get promoted.”

Rafael Benitez Manager

Mitrovic was afforded just 152 minutes of Premier League football during the first half of the season by Rafa Benitez, as he was considered third choice below summer signing Joselu and last season’s top scorer Dwight Gayle.

It remains to be seen if he will remain a Toon player beyond the summer transfer window, but he does have two and a half years remaining on his St. James’ Park contract which the Daily Star claim is worth £60,000 a week.
