Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing the Fulham hitman.
Tottenham have failed to sign a single player during the last two transfer windows, but that will surely have to change in the summer.
One area in particular where Mauricio Pochettino will be looking to bolster his his attacking department, with more quality competition required for Harry Kane.
According to Teamtalk, Spurs failed with a £27 million January bid for Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrovic, and they suggest that Poch will go back in for the Serbian in the summer.
Would signing Mitrovic be a mistake, however?
Whilst the 24-year-old has been in good form for Fulham since joining the west London outfit from Newcastle United, his horror spell at St James’ Park cannot be forgotten.
The powerful striker has scored 22 goals in 48 appearances for the Cottagers, but his lengthy spell with the Magpies makes for grim reading, with just 17 goals to his name in 72 outings in all competitions.
Mitrovic is strong in the air, but he is slow and cumbersome along the ground. His first touch is also far from accomplished, and it could be argued that Tottenham really should be targeting a forward with more proven pedigree.
The Serbia international is a decent player, and he seems like the kind of striker who will always do well at a mid to lower tier football club – somewhere where the pressure isn’t quite as intense.
Mitrovic struggled at Newcastle, and considering the fact that he would always be playing second fiddle to Kane at Tottenham, he might just find it hard to make an impression in north London too.
