The striker scored both of Newcastle’s goals in the 2-1 win over Preston.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has vowed to continue fighting for his first team place, even if he is dropped next week.
The Serbian has found himself on the bench for the Magpies this season as Dwight Gayle has shone in the Championship.
He was handed his chance to impress on Saturday afternoon, though, as his side took on Preston North End.
He did just that, bagging both of his team’s goals in the eventual 2-1 victory, taking his tally to four goals in his last two games.

Despite that, he could find himself the victim of Rafa Benitez’s rotation policy once again next weekend.
It is something he is well aware of and has vowed to continue fighting for his first team place regardless.
“The gaffer will choose and if I am on the bench I will try to fight for my place. That’s all I can do,” he told the Chronicle.

The result meant Newcastle stayed top of the Championship, maintaining their three point gap over second placed Brighton and Hove Albion.
It is a position many expected them to be in at the beginning of the season when they were made early favourites for automatic promotion.
With 31 games still to play they know that things are far from certain at this point and Mitrovic says they must continue working hard to ensure they stay there.
“We are winning games and when you win hard games and take three points the confidence, mentality and mood in the dressing room is always good,” he added.
“We have to keep trying to work hard for every training session and stay top of the league. That is where we want to be at the end of the season.”
