Aleksandar Mitrovic must be seriously concerned, after he was not even included in Newcastle United’s match day squad to face Liverpool.
Mitrovic returned from suspension, and there was a feeling that Rafael Benitez may have given the Serbian a chance against Liverpool.
Joselu had been struggling for goals, and Mitrovic possesses a similar skill-set to the Spaniard.
However, Benitez decided to keep faith with the former Stoke City man, and his decision turned out to be vindicated.
Joselu scored Newcastle’s goal in their 1-1 draw with Liverpool, and it is hard to see exactly how Mitrovic is going to break back into the Magpies’ plans now.
To not even be handed the encouragement of a place on the subsitutes’ bench shows just how far Mitrovic has slipped down the pecking order at St. James’ Park.
And the 23-year-old’s future on Tyneside is looking bleak now, unless a dramatic change happens in the near future.
