West Ham United could be busy during the summer transfer window as they aim to take the next step under Manuel Pellegrini.
In recent weeks, West Ham United have been touted to sign Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge and Fulham hitman Aleksandar Mitrović as the summer transfer window edges closer.
The Sun claims that the Hammers, along with the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Leicester are interested in Mitrovic, who was recently relegated with Fulham.
Added with that, the Daily Mail claims that Manuel Pellegrini’s side are also keen on signing Liverpool’s back-up man Sturridge in the summer.
Out of the two, the one name that stands out is Sturridge because he is the bigger name, the proven performer at the highest level, but he has had injury problems throughout his career.
On the other hand, Mitrovic, 24, is beginning to show maturity in his game and his 10 goals this season [transfermarkt] for one of the worst promoted sides the Premier League has ever seen is some feat.
But it is a partnership that could surprisingly work for West Ham and Pellegrini if he decided to pursue in trying to add both players to his squad when the transfer window re-opens.
A high work rate and constant pressing of the opposition backline is something that doesn’t suit Sturridge’s game, but if he can have someone like Mitrovic beside him to do that then he can thrive in the more important areas.
During his time at Craven Cottage, Mitrovic has increased his work rate as a lone striker and it has resulted in him being a constant menace to opposition defences.
Combining his qualities, with Sturridge’s touch and clever movement then West Ham could have a partnership that could work wonders for them.
The question with Sturridge isn’t his qualities, it’s his ability to stay on the field of play, but if any team can keep him fit then the goals will no doubt role in.
Both Sturridge [transfermarkt] and Mitrovic [transfermarkt] have scored a combined 97 goals in England’s top-flight and they will be hoping to add to that tally next season.
