Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of playing in their new stadium from next month could be in doubt.

The Sun reported Spurs have activated a clause with the FA to play the rest of their games in 2018 at Wembley if they require to, claiming there is no way their new ground will be ready for September’s match with Liverpool.

Tottenham then confirmed the news via their official website.

This is a tremendous let down for Tottenham fans who have bought tickets for their new ground.

It is not just Spurs fans who will be disappointed, but their players.

Toby Alderweireld of all people posted a tweet at the weekend expressing his excitement to play in the club’s new stadium and win the title there.

To suddenly be denied the opportunity to play there for another few months is a setback, for the whole team.

If Spurs do eventually move into their new ground in 2019, then winning the stadium could theoretically be possible, but they would still need to be in the race at that point.

At the turn of the year last season, Tottenham were 22 points behind Manchester City.

Playing at Wembley was something Spurs adjusted to, but its not ideal, and players and fans will feel deflated and even a little angry at the setback.
