Kyle Walker was left out of big games before transfer to Manchester City – is same now happening with Toby Alderweireld at Tottenham?

The future of Toby Alderweireld as a Tottenham Hotspur player has been cast into doubt again with the Telegraph reporting the defender will not travel to face Juventus.
Spurs take on Juve in the first-leg of their Champions League last-16 clash tomorrow (February 13) but despite declaring himself fit, Alderweireld will not be involved.

It was a similar situation at the weekend as Tottenham beat rivals Arsenal 1-0 in the North London derby, with manager Mauricio Pochettino preferring the Belgium international to work on his fitness.
Alderweireld returned to action last week in the 2-0 FA Cup fourth round replay victory against Newport County, playing 90 minutes after more than three months out with a hamstring injury.
Therefore leaving the 28-year-old out of the squad travelling to Turin isn’t likely to please the centre-back and could affect his ongoing contract talks.
Alderweireld’s current deal expires in 2019 and while that has the option of a one-year extension, activating that will also see a £25m release clause come into effect and Spurs are hoping to negotiate a different option.

Kyle Walker similarities?
What might be a little concerning for the fans is that the current situation with Alderweireld has a striking resemblance to Kyle Walker’s 12 months ago – especially as Manchester City, along with Chelsea and Real Madrid, are among the sides interested in signing the Belgian.
Walker wanted to leave the club and started to be left out of big games by Pochettino in favour of Kieran Trippier before the right-back completed his £50m switch to the Etihad Stadium.
