Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has revealed to the club’s official website that the Spurs players put three points above their performance on Thursday.
Tottenham took on Fulham knowing that a victory would put them right back into the thick of the Champions League chase.
Spurs had played some excellent attacking football in recent weeks.
However, they were slightly less swashbuckling last night, as Fulham had them penned back.
Tottenham stood firm though, as they protected their lead and held on for an important win at Craven Cottage.
And Alderweireld has revealed that Tottenham’s players weren’t particularly bothered about winning in style yesterday.
“In the Premier League every away game is very difficult. They have confidence and played well, you have to give them credit.” the Belgian defender said.

“But I think today we needed the three points and we said it in the dressing room – ‘no matter what we do, three points’. So we did.”
Tottenham are now just five points behind the top four and they possess a game in hand over many of the teams around them.
Jose Mourinho’s side are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Crystal Palace.
