Tottenham Hotspur beat Southampton 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Tottenham Hotspur got themselves back to winning ways on Saturday afternoon, edging past Southampton with a 2-1 home win.
Spurs entered the game in troubling form, with much of the media making them the latest ‘crisis club’ in the Premier League, because there seemingly always has to be at least one.
Spurs had drawn 2-2 at Olympiacos after leading 2-1, lost 2-1 at Leicester City after being 1-0 up, and then somehow crashed out of the Carabao Cup at the hands of Colchester United.
Saturday’s game against Southampton was key, and Tanguy Ndombele put Spurs in front to ease some concerns, before Tottenham threatened to press the self-destruct button once again.
Serge Aurier was sent off for two silly yellow cards in quick succession, before Hugo Lloris bizarrely gifted Danny Ings and equaliser.
That could have really rocked Spurs given their recent form, but Harry Kane smashed home the winner in the first half, before Mauricio Pochettino’s side dug in and ensured they got the three points.
It wasn’t exactly pretty, but Spurs fans were happy to see their team work hard for each other and not buckle under pressure, with the feeling very much mirrored by Kane and Toby Alderweireld.
Kane tweeted that it was an ‘amazing effort’ to dig deep and grind out a win, whilst Alderweireld noted that Spurs had their backs against the wall, but battled through as a team.
Christian Eriksen, Moussa Sissoko and Erik Lamela also tweeted reacts to the victory, with Lamela claiming that Spurs showed how strong they really are by claiming the win.
