Liverpool’s Alberto Moreno delivered some stellar performances against the likes of Bayern Munich and Athletic Bilbao during pre-season.
Exactly one week from the start of the Premier League season, Liverpool Echo reported that Alberto Moreno could be moving to Watford. Incidentally, what was most interesting was undoubtedly the headline, which read – “Alberto Moreno could feature in Liverpool’s opener at Watford – against the Reds”.

Ironically, and quite comically, Alberto Moreno looks like he will feature in Liverpool’s opener at Watford, but for the Reds. The Spaniard looked destined to be leaving Anfield during the summer, but what a huge difference a week makes.
The left-back was firmly second choice to James Milner last season, to the extent, he made just 12 appearances in the League. With Liverpool securing the signature of Andrew Robertson, he seemed resigned to be the third choice left back if he elected to stay.
But, how two pre-season games can make a huge difference, the 25-year-old was brilliant against Bayern Munich to the extent that his manager told Liverpool Echo, “If he (Alberto Moreno) plays like he did today then yeah [he has a chance of playing]”, and followed it up with another good showing against Atheltic Bilbao.
With Klopp planning to use James Milner as a midfielder this season, Moreno seems suddenly the first choice with Robertson looking to settle into the Liverpool setup. It is easy to forget how highly rated the former Sevilla defender was when he joined the Reds.
If he manages to keep his form and tie down a place in the lineup, he would provide attacking guile from the left flank, and will always be an option for Sadio Mane. One thing is for sure, he has forced Klopp’s hand and made him consider his transfer plans.
