Alberto Moreno barely played a second of Premier League football under Jurgen Klopp last season and now he’s back in La Liga with Villarreal.

Alberto Moreno has admitted that he is loving life at Villarreal after his long spell in the Liverpool purgatory came to a belated end over the summer, speaking to El Periodico Mediteranneo.
The former Sevilla left-back was simply crying out for a fresh start after spending the best part of two years stuck behind Andy Robertson in Jurgen Klopp’s pecking order. Moreno made just five appearances in all competitions during 2018/19 with the Spaniard paying the price for a series of high profile mistakes which cost him his manager’s trust.
Moreno returned to his homeland with a summer move to Villarreal when his contract expired and, although the 27-year-old has been limited to just a single La Liga appearance so far thanks to a muscle injury, he is certainly a lot happier away from Anfield.
“I am very comfortable, calm. Since I arrived I have been pleasantly surprised by everything, the place where I live, the club,” Moreno said.

“It is also true that I come from Liverpool, where it’s raining all day, the food, the schedule…there were days I had just had lunch and people were coming home for dinner.
“Now I enjoy good food, good weather, language, having family close. Everything is different.”
Moreno adds that he had a ‘love-hate’ relationship with Klopp though he still has a lot of admiration for the Champions League winning coach, whose preference for a tight-knit squad of around 13-14 first-team players he completely understands.
This feels like a parting of the ways that was perfectly timed for everyone.
