Rangers may be about to hand Albert Rachi a move to Ibrox.
Rangers have added eight signings to Steven Gerrard’s first team, but there is work being done on their development ranks too as they cast on eye on the future.
The Gers have made headlines by signing the likes of Filip Helander, Joe Aribo, Sheyi Ojo and Jordan Jones amongst others, but new faces have arrived in the youth ranks.
Midfielder Umaro Balde and winger Kane Ritchie-Hosler have joined the club, and both featured for Rangers Under-18’s on Friday as they hammered Huddersfield Town 9-1 at the Hummel Training Centre.
Rangers’ official write-up of the game brought up one more interesting name though, as it was sneaked in that Albert Rachi started the game, almost two months since being linked with the Gers.
Rachi, 16, is currently on the Tottenham Hotspur books, but the Glasgow Evening Times noted in May that Rangers were looking to lure him to Glasgow after just a year with Spurs.
The Albanian midfielder – described as having ‘extreme speed and pace’ by the Eurostar Academy after joining Spurs last summer – is now on trial at Rangers, and his presence in the team on Friday suggests a deal may be close.
There’s not much readily-available information about Rachi, but that Tottenham signed him a year ago should be a decent indication of his talent given how well-respected their youth setup is.
Alongside Balde and Ritchie-Hosler, Rachi should be an exciting talent for the future, and playing such a key role in Friday’s thumping win will surely take him one step closer to a full-time stay at Ibrox.
