Aston Villa forward Albert Adomah had the opportunity to leave the Villans in the summer, but was unable to secure a move away.

It was reported by TEAMtalk over the weekend that Aston Villa are one of the sides interested in signing Bakary Sako as the forward remains a free agent following his exit from Crystal Palace over the summer.

The Villans are well stocked for attacking options following a busy end to the transfer window which saw both Yannick Bolasie and Anwar El Ghazi join the Championship side.

The pair’s arrivals have seemingly pushed Albert Adomah further down the pecking order amongst Steve Bruce’s side. Last season’s top goalscorer has not started in the league since the 2-2 draw with Brentford and was left out of the matchday squad altogether for their defeat away at Sheffield United last time out.

Birmingham Live reported earlier this month that Adomah was offered the opportunity to leave Villa, with Leeds and Middlesbrough both interested in handing the winger a fresh challenge.

The report suggests that he initially opted to pursue the Boro option, but that move collapsed over the potential terms of the deal – leaving Adomah having to face the fight that lay in front of him at Villa Park.

And he must now be regretting the fact that he was not able to secure a move away given that it appears that he could soon have another rival sat in front of him in the pecking order.

As things stand, Adomah may perhaps only need a couple of injuries or a couple of teammates to endure some poor form if he hopes to get a chance to prove that he deserves to be in Bruce’s plans.

But Sako’s arrival would make that task even tougher and could be a deal that ensures that it is a hugely frustrating spell for Adomah that will probably leave him counting down the days until the January window opens.
