West Ham United have been linked with Guillermo Maripan.

Alaves sporting director Sergio Fernandez has told Radio Agricultura that there has been no contact from West Ham United about a deal for defender Guillermo Maripan.

Alaves are enjoying a dream season in La Liga, as they sit fifth in the table, just two point outside the Champions League places.

Manager Abelardo is doing some sterling work, but with that success comes major interest in star players, and centre back Maripan is a leading candidate to move on this summer.

The Chilean international, 24, has starred since joining Alaves from Universidad Catolica in 2017, and has notched two goals and two assists in 22 games this season.

A powerful, 6ft 4in centre back with ability on the ball, Maripan is bound to attract interest, and La Segunda in Spain reported over the weekend that West Ham offered €10million for Maripan in January.

That bid was allegedly rejected, but with West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini a big fan of his compatriot, a summer move may well be coming from the Hammers.

However, Alaves sporting director Fernandez has been speaking about the situation, claiming that there is no interest in Maripan and no offer made from the Hammers.

“Unfortunately I have to tell you that there is no supposed interest in Guillermo,” said Fernandez. “I am not aware of any proposal on their part,” he added.

Fernandez may merely be playing the situation down as the transfer window doesn’t open for another couple of months, or the rumours may be completely unsubstantiated. Either way, Maripan remains a name to keep an eye on for Hammers fans.
