Alasdair Gold has told his YouTube channel that he is “worried” Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur could pick up an injury as he continues to heavily exert himself. Bentancur lasted the entire 90 minutes on Wednesday night.
Indeed, the 25-year-old reminded Conte what he is capable of with the equaliser against Sporting. A brilliant leap to get above Antonio Adan, to head home an Ivan Perisic corner. His ability to hang in the air was exceptional.
The 51-time Uruguay international has started all but one of Tottenham’s 17 matches this season. He missed the 1-1 draw with West Ham due to a knock to his head. He has completed the entire 90 minutes on nine occasions so far.
Gold spoke of Bentancur’s exertions this season. He will of course, be at the World Cup with Uruguay. Gold said he is worried that the constant usage of the central midfielder could end up seeing Bentancur suffer an injury in due course.
“Bentancur was very good, again. He is giving everything for the Spurs cause at the moment. I worry, touch wood, that he is exerting himself so much that if anyone is going to pick up an injury, it could be him. He is a crucial Spurs cog.”

Gold worried Tottenham midfielder Bentancur could pick up injury
What a signing Bentancur has been for £20million. Joining the club from Juventus in January, Bentancur has proven to be a bargain. Described as “underrated” by former Juventus teammate Matthijs de Ligt, he does go under the radar.
Alongside a leader in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Bentancur has already clocked up 34 appearances in all competitions for Spurs. He will push that figure closer to the tally of 40 in a calendar year before the end of 2022.
That is, of course, if he does avoid injury – as Gold worryingly suggests he may not. Spurs do have cover. Oliver Skipp is back and Yves Bissouma signed in the summer. Against Bournemouth, it might be a good time to rest him.
