Well-known journalist Alasdair Gold has said that he thinks that Tottenham Hotspur will make an enquiry for Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud, as quoted in Football.London.

During a Q&A session on Football.London on Saturday afternoon, Gold, who is the Tottenham correspondent for the news outlet, said that he thinks that Spurs will move for the former Arsenal striker despite Chelsea deciding to trigger a one-year contract extension.

While asked if Tottenham could still sign the France international, Gold responded (3:01pm): “I think Spurs will still make an enquiry despite Chelsea taking the option on his contract so he doesn’t leave for free.

“He ticks plenty of boxes. With another striker joining he’s just not going to play much but will Chelsea let him leave for Spurs?”

Olivier Giroud move?

In March 2020, Giroud told Telefoot (as translated by FourFourTwo) that Tottenham tried to sign him from Chelsea in the January transfer window.

While it must be noted that it is Gold’s personal opinion that Spurs will make a move for the striker this summer, there is a good chance that it could happen.

After all, Tottenham do need to sign a striker, as they have to have a strong back-up to England international Harry Kane.

Moreover, with Timo Werner set to join Chelsea, as reported by Sky Sports, Giroud, 33, will face even more competition for regular first-team football next season.

Tammy Abraham is a key player in Frank Lampard’s side, while Michy Batshuayi is still at Chelsea.
