Alasdair Gold shares Jose Mourinho’s view on Danny Ings as Tottenham links emerge

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has discussed reports linking Danny Ings with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Southampton striker is entering the final year of his contract this summer, and with the England international being in the form of his life over the past two years, it’s not all that surprising to see him linked with a move to a bigger club.

Tottenham have been touted with an interest, and now Gold has shared what Jose Mourinho thinks about the forward.

“Danny Ings was a player Spurs were really interested in, they really considered him as a potential summer purchase, but obviously his price tag was crazy, not crazy it was tantamount to what he was worth but he also would need a lot of convincing to come,” Gold said.

“We’re now in a slightly different situation where he might not sign a new contract at Southampton, Ralph Hasenhuttl has hinted that if he doesn’t sign a new contract in the summer and he doesn’t sign a new deal, they may have to accept a good offer.

“We know this is exactly what Spurs did with Southampton and Hojbjerg, they waited for that final year and they got him for a very good price. There has been talk of him getting a contract with a release clause as well, but the spectre of Harry Kane has gone anywhere, I don’t think that changes for Danny Ings, if I was Danny Ings, and I understand this was the case, I’d be very wary about it.

“Carlos Vinicius was a guy that Spurs really wanted and Spurs went for him in the end, although Mourinho as I’m saying, is a big Ings fan as well.”

The fact that Mourinho is a big fan of Ings bodes well for Tottenham.

Of course, Daniel Levy is the man who has the say on transfers at Spurs, but being interested in a player your manager really likes is never a bad thing.

If Mourinho gets the chance to work with a player who he’s a fan of, he could help take his game to the next level, and while Ings will struggle to usurp Harry Kane in the Tottenham XI, you have to feel that he’d be a brilliant asset in the squad.
