Reports over the weekend emerged regarding of Real Madrid interest in Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, and Alasdair Gold has told a Q&A on Football London that Spurs could sell the Dane – but it “depends on the amount”.
Hojbjerg, 27, is one of the first names on the Tottenham team sheet at the moment. A crucial part of the midfield engine room for Antonio Conte, he also showed his quality with a brilliant goal against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Reports state that Madrid are interested in the Denmark international – after selling Casemiro to Manchester United. Tottenham are in a good position regarding the ex-Bayern and Southampton man, with three years left on his deal.
Asked about the chances of Hojbjerg moving to Madrid at this late stage in the window, Gold responded on Football London: “It would depend on the amount. People overlook what Hojbjerg brings to the side sometimes.
“He’s not the silkiest player compared to others. Spurs don’t have many leaders. The Dane certainly is one, he’s got a winning mentality and his contribution often goes unnoticed. Real Madrid interest speaks volumes as well.”

Tottenham desperately need Hojbjerg. If such interest had emerged at the start of the window, then a move could have been discussed. If the price was right, Tottenham could rake in the cash and use it to replace the midfielder.
However, with a week left in the window, Tottenham have got to shut up shop. Not only would Spurs have a limited amount of time to bring in a replacement, they would be signing a player without a pre-season under Antonio Conte.
Of course, Spurs have signed Yves Bissouma. He is an excellent player and easily good enough for top-six Premier League sides. But losing Hojbjerg is more than just a midfielder, as Gold says. He is a leader at Tottenham.
