Alasdair Gold told his YouTube channel that Davinson Sanchez has wanted to leave Tottenham for a while now, even stretching back as far as the pandemic – amid reports that Spurs want a fee little over £20m for the Colombian star.
Sanchez, 26, joined Spurs back in the summer of 2017 – since clocking up a huge 199 games for the club. This season, the ex-Ajax man has started just six Premier League matches. El Futbolero say Cristian Romero has made up his mind.
With Romero first choice on the right side of the back three, and Eric Dier the undisputed first choice in the middle – Sanchez has been made to wait, and wait again. Japhet Tanganga finds himself in a similar position to Sanchez now.
The El Futbolero report says Spurs want £22m for Sanchez. A whole lot less than they paid for him six years ago – but also, a realisation that he is no longer good enough, and needs to go. Gold says he wants out and has done for a while.
“I know he’s wanting to head off. He’s been open to a move in some of the recent windows. One in particular, during the pandemic, he really did want to get back to his family. He’s not getting the starts,” Gold said, on Sanchez.
“From his point of view, he wants to go somewhere and play regularly as well. I guess maybe is it about Spurs and their financial demands? Don’t know. I feel like we’re coming to a summer where it’s almost like a natural parting of ways.”

It makes sense that Sanchez leaves in January. Yes, it is good to have him around as cover for Dier and Romero. But his display against Sheffield United in the FA Cup was a reminder to fans, and the club, that he simply is not good enough.
One too many mistakes in him. Especially, for a player at Tottenham’s level. He needs to be sold and if Spurs can get a fee of £20million or more, then they are really doing some excellent business. Even, if it is a loss on the fee they paid.
