Clement Lenglet is reportedly close to agreeing a loan move to Tottenham Hotspur from Barcelona this summer – and Alasdair Gold has made claim about the French defender during his latest Q&A session on Football London.
Lenglet, 27, was only a bit-part player for Barcelona last season. Despite playing 132 times for the Nou Camp outfit in his first three seasons, only 27 games came his way last term. Lenglet has a contract at Barcelona until 2026.
But Barcelona need to get some of their high-earning fringe players off the wage bill. France international Lenglet is one of those. Mundo Deportivo, among other outlets, claim Lenglet is ‘close’ to joining Spurs this summer.

A loan deal with the potential option of a purchase is in place. Asked about Lenglet, Gold responded to a Tottenham fan by stating that Lenglet will only join if Spurs do not believe they can sign some of their top targets this summer.
“Clement Lenglet is a centre-back Spurs have looked at before and he turned down a loan move to N17 last summer. He’s versatile and can cover both the left-sided and central roles in a back three.
“From what I understand, the experienced Frenchman would be a back-up option if Tottenham feel they can’t get the players at the top of their centre-back wish list this summer,” Gold said, on Football London’s website.

Lenglet should really be a top target. Yes, he has endured a tricky season at Barcelona but many are forgetting that the defender was one of Barcelona’s mainstays for three seasons in a row.
A 15-time France international, Lenglet was one of La Liga’s best defenders in his early Barcelona days and certainly his spell at Sevilla. Is he good enough to overtake Ben Davies? Without a doubt, if he is at his best.
