The Northern Irishman has been appointed as the Scottish Premiership side’s new boss.
Former Swansea City defender Alan Tate has backed Brendan Rodgers to make Celtic a force in Europe once again, and introduce a style of play that the Hoops have been craving in recent years, The Scottish Sun reports.
The Northern Irishman has been appointed as the Hoops’ new boss with predecessor Ronny Deila failing to lead the team on any kind of European run during his time in charge.
But Tate – who played under Rodgers during their time at the Liberty Stadium – has backed his former manager to re-establish the Bhoys on the continent, while also making them much more exciting to watch.
“I’m sure Brendan will do well at Celtic. His priorities are bringing the big European nights back,” he told The Scottish Sun.
“Knowing him on a personal level and how he works, I know he’ll be desperate to do that.
“I know the fans will probably have a lot better football than they did this season too.”
With the Hoops so dominant in Scotland, and with Rodgers arriving with a reputation that will surely buy him plenty of time, the new boss will arguably have the time to instil the changes in playing style and mentality that he believes will help make the club much more competitive in Europe without the transition having a major impact on their hopes of retaining the league title.
If the side are able to play a better brand of football than the one they had often played under Deila, that will allow them to strike an even bigger psychological blow to their opponents’ hopes of doing well as they will know that it has become even more difficult to get a positive result.
