Everton midfielder Ross Barkley is currently linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have both been linked with making moves for Barkley in the January transfer window, by the Star, and it seems likely that the attacking midfielder will leave Goodison Park.
Barkley has not featured at all this season, due to injury, and his time with the Toffees appears to be coming to an end.
The England international has left than a year on his contract, but Stubbs still feels that Barkely should consider sticking with Everton – as he is more likely to play at Goodison Park than with Spurs or Arsenal.
“I saw that Tottenham wanted him over the summer and I can see why they like him but I can’t see Ross displacing Dele Alli,” Stubbs said.
“Ross’ next move is one that will be crucial to his career and his development.
“You look at Arsenal, could he replace Ozil, Ramsey, Sanchez? Is he going to play ahead of them? Probably not.
“It’s a difficult one for Barkley. I’d love to see him stay. Ross is someone that Everton needs. He has a lot to offer.
“Do I think he’ll stay? Probably not, it’s looking like we’ll lose him, whether that’s in January or he runs his contract out until the end of the season.
“That’s a huge blow to Everton financially and from an ability point of view.”
Barkley was actually expected to leave Everton during the summer transfer window, but the 23-year-old’s injury problems kept him with the Merseyside club.
With Ronald Koeman now gone, there may also be a chance that Koeman could feature for the Toffees again.
But Everton have been in poor form so far this season, and currently sit in 18th place in the Premier League table, and that may be negatively impacting on any slim chance they had of convincing Barkley to pen a new deal.
