Alan Stubbs believes David Unsworth could remain in charge at Everton

Everton have placed David Unsworth in charge at Goodison Park following Ronald Koeman’s dismissal.

Alan Stubbs has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 24th October, that he believes David Unsworth could remain in the dugout at Everton until the end of the season.

Unsworth has been placed in temporary charge of Everton, following Ronald Koeman’s dismissal from Goodison Park.

The 44-year-old had been managing Everton’s under-23 side, and the Toffees moved quickly to promote him, following Koeman’s departure yesterday.

Unsworth is now expected to be in charge of Everton for at least their next two matches, which come against Chelsea and Leicester City.

And Stubbs believes that if Unsworth sparks an improvement, it may be that Everton simply leave him in charge until the end of the campaign, when they can re-assess.

“I think there’s a possibility of it [Unsworth staying in charge]. But I’m not sure if it’s the long-term appointment. If he does well, you never say never,” Stubbs said.

Unsworth has previously had two spells in caretaker charge of Everton, and won when in the dugout two seasons ago against Norwich City.

Unsworth takes charge at Everton at a point when they are in terrible form, and confidence appears low.

Everton have failed to be victorious in any of their last five matches across all competitions, and look set to face a tough challenge in the League Cup against Chelsea tomorrow.
