Everton have made a poor start to the Premier League season, and Ronald Koeman appears to be coming under increasing pressure.
Alan Stubbs has told The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (broadcast on 2nd October 2017; 8:12 am) that he thinks that Ronald Koeman deserves time to turn things around at Everton, but warned the Dutchman that he may be running out of time.
The Toffees have made a poor start to the Premier League season. They go into the international break just two places and two points above the bottom three, having scored just four times and won twice from their seven league games this term.
The pressure appears to be piling on Koeman, especially after an abject performance in the 1-0 home defeat to Burnley on Sunday. And while Stubbs suggested that he felt that the former Southampton boss was the best man for the job back in the summer, he admitted that he is probably now fighting for his future.
“One thing that Everton does, and it’s a brilliant, brilliant club is that it doesn’t make rash decisions. But Ronald has quickly got to find a solution to turn this round or you know what football’s like right now.
“The biggest indictment, you look at Sean Dyche’s statement yesterday when he said about the second-half, ‘we didn’t have that much to do in the second-half’, and that was at Goodison Park.”
Though Everton have had a tough fixture list at times so far, there have still been some results which have been extremely underwhelming – including the defeat to Burnley and the heavy loss to Atalanta in the Europa League – while the manner of a couple of the defeats in games where they have been underdogs has also been disappointing.
And that start has clearly made Stubbs fear that Koeman could be in serious trouble if the Toffees do not hit the ground running following the end of the international break.
